Specifying Everest Snow Guards

How to Best Protect Yourself & Your Roof

A snow guard is a snow guard is a snow guard, right?  Wrong.  If you’re designing projects in western parts of the country that tend to get significant snowfall, then it’s important to stay updated on the newest products in the marketplace.  In this case, Everest Guard EG10 and EG16 snow guards from Rocky Mountain Snow Guards.

What makes this new snow guard an important improvement for residential and commercial projects is three-fold: design, appearance, and functionality.  The ultra-strong gusset-designed snow guards are constructed stackable for trouble-free handling on rooftops.  The welded steel snow guards, which are stocked in powder-coated dark bronze, black, and harbor gray colors, feature a pre-drilled strap that allows for easy nail or screw fastening.

“Both snow guards have 4.28 square inch pad areas,” said Brian Cross with Rocky Mountain Snow Guards.  “The difference is that EG16 is 16 inches in length with an 11.8 inch strap and ideal for new roof installation projects for cedar and shake shingles, synthetic slate and shake, and natural slate roofs.  The EG10, at ten inches long, is designed for both new and retrofit installations on the same roofs, plus metal and asphalt shingle roof types.”

Easier on Jobsite

The new stackable design of the Everest snow guards makes it a simpler process for roofing contractors to carry the snow guards up on the roof, handle them during installation, and keep their project moving forward.

Josh Yandle with Umbrella Roofing East in Colorado has already worked with Everest EG16 snow guards on two different projects; one with composite slate and the other with composite shake.  A long-time user of Rocky Guard RG16 snow guards, Yandle has been impressed with the new EG16 product line.

“The EG16s are just as strong as the RG16s, but they take up a lot less space thanks to the great design and ability to stack the snow guards,” said Yandle.  “This makes it easier to stock as well as handle in the field.  We definitely save time when it comes to loading and unloading the EG16 products, and the crew members can carry more at once than the previous snow guards.”

According to Yandle, the ability to stack the Everest product reduces the pallet sizes and freight in shipping.  This decreases the time it takes to move materials since there are fewer boxes of products.  Additionally, the style of the Everest snow guard makes it easier to stock materials and organize them in their shop.

Working with Synthetic Roofing

The Umbrella Roofing East teams gained first-hand experience with the EG16 products on two recent roofing installation projects.  The first using black snow guards in the soldier row pattern on a slate black composite DaVinci® Single-Width Slate roof in the Lakespur Villas located in Avon, Colorado.  The second project used EG16 in dark bronze on a home’s DaVinci Select Shake roof in an aged cedar color in the Skywatch community of Avon.

“These EG16 snow guards went up very quickly and will be extremely effective in holding snow on the roof,” said Yandle.  “It’s become our best practice to space snow guards 12-inches apart.  We determine the spacing vertically depending on the roofing product, slope, and elevation of the home.

“Over the years we’ve installed several types of snow guards.  We trust the team at Rocky Mountain Snow Guards.  They have more experience than the majority of manufacturers with both snow retention systems and how they function on synthetic roof systems.

“Previously, we’ve had the best success with the Rocky Guard snow guards.  However, organizing and handling the product in the field and the ability to restock remaining product after a project is completed has always been a challenge.  That problem is solved with the Everest snow guard.

“Everest has the same strength and overall appearance, but it works better for our team.  Plus, it’s a no-brainer when it comes to snow retention protection for a customer and their property.”
