Quality & Efficiency in an Emerging Community Hub

In the heart of Woodinville, Washington, sits the Somm Hotel and Spa, a 164-room luxury hotel within the Marriott®’s Autograph Collection, being built alongside the new Harvest complex: a 20-acre, mixed use project that includes retail, residential, and restaurants. Tasked with delivering a roofing solution that matches the ambition of this project, Tacoma Roofing and Waterproofing, Lakewood, Washington, is bringing both experience and commitment to the project.
“Within the Harvest there are several buildings in addition to the Somm Hotel, totaling 120,000 sq.ft.,” said Bruce Hunter, General Manager of Tacoma Roofing. “With projects of this scale, it’s important to utilize products you can rely on.”
The project involves roofing not just a single hotel, but eight distinct buildings within the Harvest complex. In wetter climates like Washington, it’s important to use a quality leak barrier that’s easy to install and provides great traction like Premier Butyl Leak Barrier from FT Solutions™, a brand in the GAF family.

Premier Butyl Leak Barrier is a high-temperature, self-adhered leak barrier designed to help protect against leaks caused by wind-driven rain and features patented GripSpot™ technology to enhance traction for installers. FT Solutions’ Premier Butyl Leak Barrier works with roofers by providing a highly walkable surface, which makes it easy for crews to install the product.
“Our crews enjoy installing FT Solutions leak barrier,” said Hunter. “When crews like the products they are working with it makes their installations more efficient.”
Having products that are easy to work with is crucial, especially when the industry is facing ongoing labor shortages. With only 15 workers available when ideally 20 to 25 are needed, efficiency has been key for the Tacoma Roofing team.

After the leak barrier was laid, Tacoma Roofing was notified that the metal roofing panels for the steep-slope roof were delayed, meaning the leak barrier would be exposed for some period of time. Fortunately FT Solutions’ Premier Butyl Leak Barrier resists UV degradation for up to 180 days to accommodate the changing construction schedule.
By choosing FT Solutions Premier Butyl Leak Barrier, Tacoma Roofing selected a quality product for the Somm Hotel and Harvest complex that’s not only robust but also supportive of an efficient installation during a time of labor shortages. The complex is expected to open in 2027.
